Biblical Truth: God delivered Hezekiah and Judah from the Assyrian army because they desperately turned to the Lord in repentance and prayer.
Context: Judah found itself in a desperate situation. With no allies and minimal military strength, what would the nation do when Assyria turned its eye to the southern kingdom? Hezekiah, the new king, knew what his father would do: forget the Lord and try and make alliances with other nations. But he also knew what the prophet of the Lord, Isaiah, had told him. Hezekiah found himself in a time of crisis with fundamental questions just as real then as they are now: What do you believe? Where is your security found?
Learning Goals:
- Learners will examine Hezekiah’s feelings of insecurity as he faced the threat to his kingdom.
- Learners will consider ways to find their security in God when they feel threatened during times of insecurity and loss.
