Our Love for the LORD Part II

Jeremiah 2:1-2 The word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the LORD, "I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness, in a land not sown.

1. "I remember the __devotion_____ of your youth

Chesed means loving kindness, faithfulness, devotion, loyalty, unchanging love, steadfast love

(Chesed is used as a covenant word and especially of the covenant between God and Israel.)

Exodus 13:18 But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.

Exodus 13:21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

Exodus 14:29 The people of Israel walked on dry ground through the sea, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.

Exodus 14:31 Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses.

Exodus 15:1-20 Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the LORD, saying, "I will sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously; The LORD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him. The LORD is a man of war; YHWH is his name. "Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders? You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. The LORD will reign forever and ever."

2. God desires our __persistent__ love and devotion.

Hosea 6:4-6 What shall I do with you, O Ephraim? What shall I do with you, O Judah? Your love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that goes early away. 5Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth, and my judgment goes forth as the light. 6For I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings

3. Even when our devotion _diminishes_, Gods devotion endures forever. (Isaiah 40:6,8)

Psalm 136 (look up)

Psalm 100:5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

Jeremiah 31:3 The LORD appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.

4. God’s chesed for us is entirely ___undeserved____.
